The Maze

Pairings: Hints of SasukexSakura
Genre: Hints of Romance & Friendship

Sasuke waved bye to his mother as he walked out of the door, shutting it behind him. He was dressed as a little vampire, even with trails of blood rolling down the corners of his mouth. His mouth was open as he bared his glowing fangs as he walked alone. His black clothes were all neat and he had a black and red cape over his shoulders. His mother had said he looked really handsome in his costume, and he would have been in all smiles if his brother had joined him like he promised. Sasuke frowned at the thought of his brother off on another mission, too busy for him. But he just shook his head, forgetting the thought. He walked down the lit streets of the district, knocking on the doors one by one as he chanted 'Trick or Treat' repeatedly at the smiling faces of his relatives. He would smile back as they put candy into his black and orange bag, telling them thanks before running off the steps of the houses and on to the next.
Finally Sasuke finished going around the houses and left the district. He walked alone for a while, knocking on the doors and getting candy. Everywhere he looked he saw other kids his age, out with their parents. They all seemed happy and laughing a lot. It only made Sasuke scowl more, since he was stuck going around alone. His mother was giving out candy, his brother off on a mission, and his father thought Halloween was too childish to even bother to offer to take his son out. So Sasuke walked around alone, as he avoided the gazes of other parents and kids.
Suddenly he heard a set of laughter from behind him, which sounded rather familiar. He turned around and spotted a group of boys, the same boys that he went to the academy with.  He spotted the blonde haired boy, dressed up as a fox. He smirked at this and instantly recalled the boy's name, Naruto. As if on cue the boy saw Sasuke in front of him and waved at him with a big grin on his face. "Sasuke! Over here!" He shouted out. The other boys looked forward and spotted the little vampire and walked towards him. They were in a group of four boys, Shikamaru dressed as a cloud, Chouji as a bag of potato chips, Kiba as a puppy with Akamaru in a ghost outfit and Naruto as a fox. They were all pretty typically dressed up for Halloween. Sasuke nodded towards him and waited until they came.
"Do you want to come with us to the Haunted Maze?" The blonde asked him excitedly. He should be excited; Naruto was finally able to have a fun Halloween for once. Unlike Sasuke who just wanted to spend Halloween with his older brother, but it couldn't be helped. Sasuke scowled at the invitation though. He just wanted to get home as fast as possible, since he didn't really like sweets in the first place and being out alone wasn't that fun.
"Come on Sasuke, it's better than being out alone. You are alone aren't you?" Kiba teased lightly with a grin of his own. Little Akamaru barked amusingly from under the sheet that was over him. Sasuke's face darkened more, which seemed to suit his costume.
"Or are you too chicken?" Naruto teased him and laughed out loud. He started to make chicken sounds with Kiba, as they both mocked him. Sasuke visibly frowned over his fangs at this and his face got a little red.
"I'm not afraid! I will join you to this Haunted Maze, just to prove my point." He said confidently and puffed out his chest. He smirked at this as the boys laughed and nodded their heads. Shikamaru started to walk forward, passing Sasuke, as if leading the way.
"Well let's get going, before they close the maze." He said and continued to walk. The others scurried along to follow him.
Within minutes they reached a huge corn field with a sign above it on two posts. It was coloured in white bold letters, with blood red coloured paint dripping from the letters, making it look like blood. There was some shinobi at the entrance of the maze, dressed as zombies. Only one had a bowl of candy with them as he spotted the boys and beckoned them over. However in front of him already were a group of five girls, though Sasuke only recognized two of the girls from his class. There was a little blonde haired girl, dressed as an angel. He knew her to be friends with Shikamaru and Chouji, but she was rather annoying. From what he could recall her name was Ino. Beside her though was a timid little girl, with pink hair dressed as a princess. Sasuke had seen her every now and then with Ino but she never talked to him. She would just blush and cover her face with her hair and turn away from him, though he had no idea why. He didn't even know the girl's name since she never spoke to him.
The group approached the girls and Sasuke heard them squeal loudly, though he noticed the pink haired girl just blush stayed quiet. She seemed to be half hiding behind Ino. That was odd. Sasuke shrugged off the thought though since the shinobi with the candy called on them to be quiet.
"Here are the rules; you all go in through the front turn right, and need to figure out your way back here from the left side. But be warned children, there are monsters that lurk in the walls of the maze, and they love to snack on little girls and boys." He said and laughed before winking at them with a grin. "Those who aren't afraid may enter the Haunted Maze. And if you survive, then you get candy!" He said grinning and moved out of the way for the kids to go in.
The boys listen intently but none of them were scared. At least that was how they acted in front of the girls. However the girls seemed to have mix feelings. The princess was shaking a bit at what the shinobi said. Ino seemed unfazed by this, and enjoyed the challenge.
"I-Ino. Do we have to?" She asked quietly as she looked down. Ino looked back at her friend and grinned confidently. "Yes! Let's go it'll be fun!" She said and laughed. "Bu-but…" The pink haired girl stuttered out until she was rudely interrupted by a brown haired girl.
"Is the little princess scared? Ino I told you not to bring her, she'll just ruin our fun!" Said the little devil dressed girl. Ino frowned as she insulted her friend and stomped her feet. "Don't say that!" She shouted at the girl and looked back at the girl to see if she was alright. The princess however was frowning and looked down, hiding her face with her hair. She was close to tears again, like always from what the girl said. Ino was about to say something, until Naruto interrupted her.
"Don't be like that! Were here to protect you!" He said confidently and grinned. The devil girl and her little group laughed at what he said. "Yeah right, were safer with the crybaby then you!" She said and laughed in his face. Naruto's face got red with anger at this but before he could retort though, they ran ahead of the group and entered the maze, disappearing into the rows of corn that was what the maze was made out of. Ino sighed heavily and looked down at her scared friend. "We don't have to." She said sadly. But the pink haired girl just shook her head and looked up at her. "Let's go!" She said confidently and took Ino's hand and marched into the corn maze. It looked like she wanted to prove them wrong. Sasuke was proud of the little princess and soon followed them into the maze. Behind him he could hear Kiba and Naruto muttering out how dramatic that was.
However within a few minutes, Sasuke couldn't hear them talking any more. He turned around and saw that they were gone. Frowning he turned back in front of him and saw that the girls were gone too. The place suddenly got eerily quiet and it was now that he wished Itachi had come with him. Then his brother could protect him from any of the monsters in the maze. Slowly he started to walk forward, figuring that the faster he was out of there, the faster he could get home. Suddenly he heard a scream behind him and he jumped as he slowly turned around. Behind him was the little pink haired girl, running towards him, a man with a chainsaw and mask chased after her. His eyes widen in fright as he quickly grabbed her hand and ran with her. "This way!" He shouted at her, seeing that she was just nodding her head as they run into the maze more, getting more and more lost in it.
The sounds of the chainsaw died out as they got further into the maze, and the two ten year olds slowed down to catch their breathe. They heaved as they both bent over to breathe.
"Do you think he's gone?" The pink haired girl asked quietly. Sasuke looked beside him and saw that she was shaking and had tears in her eyes. She bowed her head down like always and used her other hand to rub her eyes. She was truly terrified and even Sasuke could tell. He smirked and gave her hand a little squeeze, since he was still holding her hand. Plus he wasn't planning on letting go anytime soon. He felt safer having someone beside him, with him even while they were stuck in the maze.
"Yeah, for now. You really didn't want to come in here did you?" He asked quietly, trying to make conversation since they were stuck together. A little sniffle came from her, and Sasuke then realized the girl was crying. He sighed and tugged on her hand and used his other hand to pet her head. "It's okay. We'll get out of here quickly, don't worry." He said reassuringly. The girl looked up at him with wide eyes. Sasuke took in the fact that her eyes were like windows, bright green windows. He reached over and rubbed her cheek a bit, getting rid of her tears. "Really?" She asked nervously. Sasuke just nodded and looked around a bit.
He looked back at her and saw that she rubbed her tears away and that her cheeks were stained red. It really suited her since all the princesses in the stories his mother read to him, seemed to blush a lot. He looked down at her costume and saw that she was wearing a pink dress and on top her head was a gold tiara. She looked rather cute in it, but he wouldn't say. He just blushed and turned his head away from him. He started to walk in a direction and tugged on her hand to make her follow him. "Let's try this way." He said and looked back at her smirking. She nodded her head and followed him.
They walked together in silence, turning and twisting in different directions as they tried to figure out a way out of the maze. They never seemed to come across their friends though, which was odd. Sasuke just shrugged off the thought and looked over at the girl from the corner of his onyx eyes, as he watched her. It seemed that as they were walking she got closer to him, but he didn't care. He finally spoke after all the silence. "My name's Sasuke, what's yours?" He asked which made the girl jump. He smirked at this and figured she was lost in thought.
"S-sorry!" She stuttered out and looked up at him, then blushed and looked away. "My name's Sakura." She said and then looked up at him. "I know who you are. The girls talk a lot about you." She said and immediately covered her mouth. "Sorry!" She said again and looked away.
Sasuke just chuckled lightly and shook his head. "Sakura's a pretty name." He said complimenting her. He knew the girls talked about him, but he never had time to say anything to them. He didn't like any of them either, but maybe that would change soon.
She perked up and looked up at him. "Really? Thanks!" She said and giggled finally. Sasuke was glad she was having fun for once, which was weird for him since he only cared for his mother and brother. He nodded and continued to walk until he felt a tug on his arm. He looked back, stopping and saw that Sakura had stopped in her tracks. She was pointing in front of them, as fear etched its way onto her face. He looked towards where she was pointing and gasped in shock. In front of them were three zombies, who were walking them. Suddenly they started to run towards the little kids and in turn, Sasuke and Sakura turned around and bolted off in fear.
There running was cut off though when they saw a wolf-like creature jump out of the corn and run towards them. Sakura screamed and clung onto Sasuke's arm more as they jolted to a stop. "What do we do now!?" She asked in fright as the zombies behind them were catching up, while the werewolf was running towards them at full speed. "Sasuke?!" She asked him and looked up at him terrified.
"Um…" He stuttered out and looked back and forth from behind them and in front of them. "I have an idea, hold on tight." He said and using his other arm clung onto her body. Sakura nodded and buried her head into his chest.
As the monsters ran towards them, Sasuke counted until they got really close, then he grabbed Sakura and pulled her out of the way. He looked back and saw the monsters collide with each other and fall to the ground. He immediately stood up and dragged Sakura to her feet as they started to run again. Within minutes they found the exit and stopped to catch their breath. They looked at each other and fell over laughing at what happened.
The shinobi from before gave them their candy after they stood back up and grinned at them. "Congratulations on making it out safely. Your friends left already though, have a Happy Halloween kids." He said and laughed as he turned around and left the two to them.
Sasuke took Sakura's hand and the pair walked towards their houses as they talked about what had happened. They continued until they got to a fork in the road, where they had to split up.
"I had a great time Sasuke, thanks for helping me out. I'll see you tomorrow!" She said and looked up at him, kissing his cheek lightly. "Happy Halloween." She said and giggled quietly. She let go of his hand and turned away from him, as she walked towards her house.
Sasuke stood there speechless and reached up to touch his cheek where she had kissed it. Sasuke turned away from her and started walking home, but there was a grin on his face as his cheeks got red. It was definitely a Happy Halloween for him, and it was all because of the little pink haired princess.
